When the mind, digital label and spirit work as one, anything is possible.

Labels When the mind, digital label and spirit work as one, anything is possible.

by Danny Mertens

What to do when a renowned spirits label asks you to produce an extra-large digital print version of their standard high-quality label? Be smart, be like The Label Makers: you have your Xeikon CX3 do an extra run for its money. A quality tradition of 200 years in a 300-label short run? This Label Xtraordinaire pulled it off.

The spirit is distilled; the right digital label instills desire

When people want to lift their spirit with a bit of spirit, they savor the moment with all their senses. Everything has to be right: the time, setting, glass, smell, look and feel.
Prestigious liqueur label Lanique had crafted a unique way of getting their brand top-shelf attention at specialist cocktail bars: a stunning 6l bottle not to be ignored, begging to be tasted. Supersize visibility, supersize the bottle? Sure thing, but what about the label to go with?

This label needed to be the extra-large edition of the standard quality Lanique label. And with so much spending and reputation at stake, quality was not to be compromised in front of the toughest of audiences. Short run on the shortest of deadlines? That calls for some digitally printed tactility.

Not only does the XL Lanique label reflect the velvety experience of this 200-year old liquor tradition, it also immediately leaves a lasting impression on the shelf. The lavish label exudes the luxury in which the drink originated. The drink was cherished and imbibed by the wealthy and titled elite at their celebrations and grand balls across the Kingdom of Prussia, the Two Sicilies and the Austrian Empire, over 200 years ago.

The Label Makers knew only the Xeikon CX3 would deliver the best. High-quality digital print output on the Fasson Rustique cream material with permanent adhesive secured a rich parchment 'handmade' appearance. The label was then embellished with gold hot foil crests, incorporating a flexo brown on the gold foil and a mat patch varnish for an additional tactile effect. The brand name, Lanique, is enhanced using gold hot foiling and embossing.

The end-result?

A Label Xtraordinaire that displays a rich tapestry of design and tactile effects that befits the provenance of the product within.
