De Resolutie unlocks new wallpaper potential with Xeikon’s TX500 and KURZ digital foil

Dutch creative print provider De Resolutie has expanded its production power with a Xeikon TX500 press and KURZ Digital Metal unit – enabling high-speed, high-volume wallpaper embellishment with unmatched detail and flexibility.

De Resolutie, based in Rijswijk, the Netherlands, has long been a pioneer in digital printing. Specializing in applications ranging from signage to custom furniture and home décor, the company has built a reputation for combining creativity with production muscle. Half of its revenue comes from home décor – and wallpaper printing is its core business.

With the recent installation of its 17th Xeikon press, the TX500, combined with a KURZ Digital Metal unit, De Resolutie is now targeting a new high-end segment in wallpaper: digitally embellished rolls with ultra-precise foil effects.

Breaking into a new market

“Thanks to this integrated Xeikon-KURZ solution, we can now digitally print and embellish wallpaper rolls up to 10 meters long, in a single pass and at industrial speed,” says co-owner Jeffrey Vermaat. “This opens a completely new market – and all of our home décor customers across Europe are thrilled.”

The breakthrough comes from Xeikon’s TITON toner technology, which withstands the high temperatures required for inline metallization. After CMYK printing, the press applies a fifth transfer toner that defines the foil zones. In the next step, the KURZ Digital Metal module fuses the foil into those areas at up to 1200 dpi resolution, with microscopic precision.

Why foil matters in wallpaper

Foil isn’t new – but what’s new is the scale, precision and speed. “Gold, silver, matte or glossy rainbow effects: these finishes used to be either manual, expensive, or very slow,” Vermaat explains. “Now, we can apply them inline, fully digitally, at speeds up to 900 meters per hour with 50 cm roll widths.”

This represents a significant step up from traditional textured inks or multi-step foil workflows. “Other techniques top out at 15 meters per hour or rely on inkjet tricks with white overprint. They’re slower, more wasteful, and don’t match the detail or affordability we now get with Xeikon and KURZ,” says Vermaat.

A digital game-changer

According to Vermaat, this new technology brings digitally printed wallpaper much closer to the premium looks of traditional wallpaper – often full of luxe materials, intricate details, and embellishments.

“The digital share in the wallpaper market is still only 3 to 5%,” he notes. “But now you can combine on-demand production, no stock pressure, and ultra-short runs with foil enhancements that used to be exclusive to high-end brands. I genuinely believe this is the biggest leap forward since digital print itself.”

Customer excitement fuels momentum

De Resolutie doesn’t sell its own wallpaper collections. Instead, it produces for European home décor contractors, such as NLXL. Vermaat personally approached all of them to introduce the new foil solution. “Everyone is excited. You can now explore so many styles: glitter, gloss, art deco, luxury palace looks or very subtle enhancements – all in your own design.”

From artisan luxury to mass personalization

He draws a parallel to 19th-century wallpaper pioneer William Morris. “Back then, gold and silver pigments were only for the elite. Now, we bring that look to a broader market, with digital precision and custom freedom.”

Though still in its early days, the response has been swift: “Our clients are already creating new designs and building collections based on this tech. And interior design magazines are picking it up too. It’s big.”
